As the dark evenings draw in for winter, and struggling beneath the heaviness of our national media (in light of a General Election soon with all its awful shouting and bitching), I find myself turning to thoughts I shared in my TEDx talk – that we have to find some much better focal points.
What I meant is that if I want my social feeds to remain friendly, social and actually nourishing, then I can take some responsibility for that by making an effort to share good stuff that will lift us up. And, as per the talk, if in doing so something helpful and inspiring grows from it too, even better.
So keeping it simple and achievable, last Friday 1st November, I launched a daily tweet project called #NovemberHope. It simply reflects my desire to make ‘much better focal points’ by way of a micro-thought for the day, bouncing off a lovely picture. That’s it!
I was really inspired by an illustrator friend of mine who has just completed a second year of ‘#Hocktober’ – her tribute to her hero David Hockney which involves recreating a photo of Hockney each day through October. It is a thing of joy, and I was delighted to join in for the final shot of David and Joni Mitchell – perhaps one of my all time favourite hero shots!
Cultivating good habits in search and celebration of joy and hope – that’s how I want to show up, and it doesn’t have to be complicated.
